Joni

Joni is an Integrative Counsellor with a warm, relational and down-to-earth approach. She believes counselling should be shaped around the individual, recognising that no two people need exactly the same thing from therapy.

Drawing on Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural approaches, Joni adapts her work to what feels most helpful for each client. This may involve exploring past experiences, relationships and patterns that continue to influence the present, or simply offering a safe space to talk, feel heard and make sense of difficult experiences. She works collaboratively and at a pace that feels right for each individual.

The therapeutic relationship is central to Joni's approach. She aims to create a space where clients feel accepted, understood and able to speak openly without judgement. Where appropriate, she may gently challenge clients to help them develop greater insight, self-awareness and understanding.

Joni has experience supporting people affected by trauma, difficult and harmful relationships, addiction, emotional distress and complex mental health needs. She has a particular interest in attachment, relational patterns and the impact that past experiences can have on present-day relationships, helping clients better understand themselves and make changes that feel meaningful and lasting.

Alongside her professional experience, Joni also brings lived understanding of overcoming difficult and harmful relationship experiences. While recognising that every person's journey is unique, she understands something of the strength it can take to begin moving forward. This understanding helps inform the compassion, sensitivity and hope she brings to her work whilst keeping the focus firmly on each client's individual experience and what recovery means for them.

Joni works with an awareness of the many factors that shape people's experiences, including culture, race, gender, disability, neurodivergence, family relationships and social background. She approaches each person with openness, curiosity and respect, without making assumptions about their experiences or identity.
