Pat
I'm Pat, a person-centred (humanistic) therapist, and like all the counsellors at Echo, I have direct personal experience of narcissistic abuse. So, I can honestly say, "I get it." Everyone's experience is unique, but common themes emerge, and I can offer psychoeducation if you need guidance in this area. The real strength of the person-centred approach, for me, is that you can process your experience with someone who understands. You will be heard. You can rediscover your sense of self and your confidence in a safe and supportive environment.
How I Can Help:
A person-centred approach is powerful for healing from narcissistic abuse and coercive control. I offer:
-
Unconditional Positive Regard: A non-judgmental space where you can express your feelings and experiences without fear of criticism.
-
Deep Empathy: Striving to understand your experiences from your perspective, validating your feelings.
-
Authentic Connection (Congruence): Genuine and present interactions, fostering trust and safety in the therapeutic relationship.
-
Focus on Your Inner Strength: Recognising your inherent capacity for self-healing, acting as a facilitator to help you access your inner resources and move towards growth.
Commitment to Inclusivity:
I have a strong commitment to equality. I respect people of all faiths and none and understand that abuse can exist within faith communities. I am positive about neurodivergence and have extensive training and personal experience of autism. I am positive about Gender, Sex, and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) and am working towards accreditation as a "pink therapist" (specialising in supporting the LGBTQ+ community).
