Why you may receive more than one privacy notice

Why this matters

When you engage with Echo, you may interact with two different Data Controllers:

  • Echo Society Ltd — the organisation that runs the counselling pathway, community activities, events, groups, campaigns, volunteering, and safeguarding coordination.

  • Your Associate Counsellor — an independent practitioner who provides your therapy and keeps your clinical records.

Because Echo and your counsellor each hold different types of information, you may receive more than one privacy notice.

1. Echo’s Privacy Notice

Echo’s Privacy Notice explains how Echo uses service‑level information, including:

  • enquiries

  • counselling intake and allocation

  • safeguarding coordination

  • continuity planning

  • events, workshops, and groups

  • volunteering

  • fundraising

  • campaigns and outreach

  • organisational operations

Echo does not hold your clinical notes or therapeutic records.

2. Counselling & Therapeutic Records Privacy Notice

Your Associate Counsellor is an independent Data Controller for:

  • clinical notes

  • therapeutic records

  • session content

  • modality‑specific documentation

  • clinical retention

  • clinical SAR responses

This notice explains how your counsellor keeps your therapy information safe and confidential.

3. Why two notices?

You receive two notices because:

  • Echo and your counsellor hold different information

  • Echo and your counsellor have different responsibilities

  • Echo and your counsellor make independent decisions about the information they hold

  • Echo does not access or store your therapeutic records

  • Your counsellor does not have access to Echo’s wider organisational records except where limited service‑level information is necessary for allocation, safeguarding, continuity, or related organisational responsibilities

This protects your privacy and ensures each controller is clear about their role.
